Statement from Board of Directors President Russ Sperling Regarding Orchestra Nova Educational Programs
December 14, 2012 San Diego County Educators and Education Supporters,
While we share the disappointment of San Diego music lovers that Orchestra Nova
has ceased operations, the San Diego Winds (http://www.sdwinds.org/)
Board of Directors welcomes the opportunity to take leadership of Nova's
educational programs. Music Memory
and Take 5 for Music have greatly
expanded their reach over the last few years in San Diego County schools, and
these programs are well-aligned with the San Diego Winds educational
mission. Along with the Winds’ existing educational initiatives, we stand
committed to the expansion of Music
Memory and Take 5 for Music to
continue this movement to provide music education for every child in San Diego
County.
With the help of Beverly Lambert, the former CEO of Orchestra Nova, we are
pursuing the necessary funds to move Music
Memory and Take 5 for Music
forward. We have made progress, and we intend to bring Ross Moore onboard
as the San Diego Winds Musical Ambassador to continue his work. We are
also optimistic that appropriate funding will be secured to hold the end of the
year "Music Bee" concert and competition. We hope to have
information regarding the logistics of this concert by the end of January.
While we are committed to these programs, we appreciate your understanding and
patience as we do the organizational work to bring Music Memory and Take 5 for
Music into the San Diego Winds fold.
Sincerely,
Russ Sperling, President
San Diego Winds
