Sarah Schwartz

Violin Instructor

Sarah Schwartz is an acting section violinist with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and enjoys a versatile career as an avid chamber player, recitalist and recording musician. She is a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival where she was featured multiple times interviewing and performing chamber music for the Performance Today program on NPR stations throughout the country. Before coming to San Diego, Ms. Schwartz performed in Carnegie Hall as a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, in Lincoln Center as a member of the American Symphony Orchestra, and throughout New York City as a member of the North/South Consonance Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. In the summers she performed orchestra and chamber concerts at the Caramoor International Music Festival and the Bard Music Festival. Ms. Schwartz holds degrees from Oberlin College and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Ms. Schwartz was a frequent recitalist on the east coast, including a series at the Morgan Library in New York City where she had the opportunity to study original manuscripts from the library’s collection. She has recorded Grammy® award-winning albums with Renee Fleming and Wynton Marsalis, and has recorded additional albums with artists such as Joshua Bell, Dawn Upshaw, James Levine, Andre Previn, Deborah Voigt and Grover Washington Jr. She has recorded movie scores at the Sony, Fox and Warner Brothers studios in Los Angeles, and she has performed with pop artists and groups including Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Sting, Bobby McFerrin, The Who, The Eagles and Metallica.

Sarah Schwartz teaches private violin lessons in San Diego through which she prepares students for recitals, auditions and merit programs. Her students play in the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra and The San Diego Youth Symphony, and have taken part in the Goodlin Competition, the MTAC Certificate of Merit Program, the San Diego Summer Music Institute, the Chamber Music and String Workshop through Solosoli Music Studio and the Interlochen Arts Camp. Her former students in New York City played in the NY Youth Symphony where she served as a section violin coach.
