SDSMI Informational Video
What
SDSMI is a one week summer music camp presented by San Diego Winds. SDSMI is taught by some of the best musicians and educators in the region and in the country, including members of the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Winds, faculty from Point Loma Nazarene University and freelance professional musicians. The camp includes a residential and commuter option for students and scholarships are available.

Auditions
Auditions are held for placement in the appropriate level ensemble only. For 2024 auditions will be submitted digitally.
Daily Schedules
Each day consists of the following sessions:

Masterclasses with faculty members on specialized instruments

Group sectionals
-
Large ensemble rehearsals
-
Chamber music rehearsal time
-
Individual practice time (coaches are available for additional assistance)
In addition, each day offers breakout sessions on the following subjects:

Music Theory

Composition
-
Conducting
-
Alexander Technique
-
And more depending on each year’s guest speakers/instructors!
Concert
The week ends with a culminating concert featuring the large ensembles as well as chosen student soloists and ensembles from the student recital. The concert is free to the public and is professionally recorded and broadcast over the internet.
