John Wilds
Trumpet Instructor
John MacFerran Wilds, a native of Seattle, Washington received his
earliest musical training from his father on the great highland bagpipes.
Later, John’s musical training took him to Central Washington University
and Indiana University where he studied with Louis Davidson, Allan Dean
and William Adam. In 1988 John Wilds joined the trumpet section of the
San Diego Symphony where he held the post of Opera Principal/Second
Trumpet for 35 years.
Outside of the San Diego Symphony, John has been Principal Trumpet of
the New Mexico Symphony, the Mississippi Symphony, San Diego
Chamber Orchestra, Associate Principal of the Orquestra Metropolitana de
Lisboa, Second Trumpet at the Santa Fe Opera and was a frequent
substitute in the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco
Symphony.
John M. Wilds’ academic affiliations currently are as Artist Faculty at San
Diego State University and Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at Point Loma
Nazarene University. John is a member of Westwind Brass, a Bach
Performing Artist for Conn-Selmer and the author of Basics of Trumpet
Performance.
